Prestigious award for the international group from Austria at the 24th Export Award ceremony

Vienna, June 22, 2018 – Every year, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber puts the spotlight on the country’s best exporters at the Export Day of Außenwirtschaft Austria. RHI Magnesita, the global market leader in the refractory industry, received the silver award for its foreign trade initiatives at the ceremony for the 2018 Export Awards. A high-profile panel of experts from business, politics and media chose the winners in six main categories. This year’s Export Awards were presented, among others, by Margarete Schramböck, Federal Minister of Digital and Economic Affairs and the newly elected WKÖ President Dr. Harald Mahrer. The Export Day is Austria’s largest export information event and the most important networking event to obtain an overview of business opportunities and developments in foreign markets.

Customer-oriented and innovative actions as a basis of the corporate culture

The award in the category industry for RHI Magnesita underlines the success of the company’s export strategies in the recent past. A major success was, for example, accomplished with the cost-optimized product range PERRAMIT through a change of direction in the brand strategy. With the new product line, RHI Magnesita succeeds in reflecting the trends in the market and in addressing markets outside the core segments in a targeted manner, thus securing sales volume in the long term. With the specifically developed brand claim, a balancing act was performed by deliberately separating the products in sales, and new market segments are now served.

“We are there for our customers at 35 main production sites in 16 countries and at more than 70 sales offices worldwide. The Austrian Export Award is an important recognition of our achievements in foreign trade for us as the globally leading supplier in the refractory industry,” said Stefan Rathausky, Senior VP Marketing & Corporate Communications at RHI Magnesita, proud after accepting the award.

“The award underlines the outstanding achievements and the seamless interaction of a globally operating player and all its functions, from Research and Development to Production, Technical Marketing, Sales and Service, as well as their accountability, reliability and flexibility in meeting customer requirements,” Rathausky added.

Export rate exceeds 95%

In 2017, RHI Magnesita reported pro-forma revenue of 2.7 billion euros with an export rate of more than 95%. After the combination in October 2017, the company has a balanced distribution of revenue. RHI Magnesita generates 24% of its revenue in North America, 23% in Europe, 20% in Asia/Pacific, 18% in South America and 15% in the Middle East/Africa/CIS. The company’s top export markets include India, the USA, Germany, China, Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Canada and Russia.
