RHI Magnesita is reinforcing Brazil’s growing role in the global magnesia supply chain with the successful commissioning of its largest rotary kiln in Brumado, Bahia. Announced during MagForum 2025—held for the first time in Latin America—this milestone underscores Brazil’s potential to become a key global hub for high-quality, sustainable magnesia production.

Located in one of the world’s richest magnesite regions, RHI Magnesita’s Brumado operation combines abundant natural reserves with advanced processing technology and direct rail access to the Port of Aratu. The newly commissioned 200-metre rotary kiln, designed for high-temperature sintering, adds an impressive 150000 tonnes of annual capacity. This investment enhances both efficiency and scalability, ensuring consistent, top-grade output for global refractory markets facing supply chain pressures and increasing demand for reliable alternatives. The project comes at a pivotal moment. In recent years, the global refractory industry has faced volatility due to geopolitical tensions and concentrated sourcing. Brazil’s rise as a diversified supply source directly strengthens industrial resilience and sustainability worldwide.

“Brumado is open for business: It is reliable, highquality, and scalable,” said Gustavo Franco, Chief Commercial Officer at RHI Magnesita, during the conference. “Our long-term investment in this site reflects our confidence in Brazil’s capability to supply the world with sustainable, high-performance raw materials.” With Brumado now fully operational, RHI Magnesita is well positioned to lead the next phase of transformation in the global magnesia market—one grounded in resilience, quality, and sustainability.
