Three decades of collaboration, innovation, and trust: RHI Magnesita and Stahlwerk Thüringen GmbH (Germany) mark 30 years of partnership under 4PRO—a refractory solutions contract model that redefines long-term customer value through technology, reliability, and continuous improvement, enabled in this example by permanent on-site services.

Since 1995, RHI Magnesita has partnered with Stahlwerk Thüringen, delivering end-to-end refractory management that includes engineering, installation, condition monitoring, and process optimisation across all steel production furnaces and vessels. The collaboration is guided by RHI Magnesita’s 4PRO philosophy, which integrates performance, partnership, people, and planet into every solution. Over the years, several key technological milestones have been achieved, demonstrating continuous innovation and a shared commitment to operational excellence. Examples include conversion to cast ladle linings using the VILL system, integration of computational fluid dynamics into process design through optimised TUNFLOW impact pots, modernisation of refractory systems using ANKERDOOR, as well as implementation of the INTERSTOP 13QC slide gate and ANKERTUN CS tundish wear lining systems—all contributing to higher product lifetime, efficiency, and automation.

Both partners continue to drive technological advancement, with upcoming developments such as a high-pressure water jet milling system for ladles, a new TERMINATOR XL, and a tailored ladle gunning manipulator—further enhancing automation, workplace safety, and sustainability as they look ahead to the next decade of partnership.
