Successful Completion of ReSoURCE—RHI Magnesita’s First Coordinated Horizon Europe Project

After 42 months of intensive collaboration, the ReSoURCE project (Refractory Sorting Using Revolutionising Classification Equipment) has reached a successful conclusion. As the first Horizon Europe initiative coordinated by RHI Magnesita, ReSoURCE marked a major milestone in our innovation and sustainability journey. The project delivered all planned results, including the development and demonstration of advanced sensor-based sorting technologies to enable high-efficiency recycling of used refractories. This breakthrough supports RHI Magnesita’s global recycling strategy and significantly contributes to reducing CO2 emissions from primary raw material use. ReSoURCE is a flagship example of how digital and green transformation can be implemented in heavy industries. It has also strengthened our network of academic and industrial partners across Europe. Most importantly, it underlines RHI Magnesita’s capacity to lead complex, EU-funded innovation projects—a critical enabler for achieving our long-term sustainability goals.

This achievement supports the goals of the European Green Deal and the EU Clean Industrial Deal, which promote decarbonisation, reindustrialisation, and circular economy leadership. Austria actively contributes to shaping these strategies, balancing climate and competitiveness. ReSoURCE exemplifies how advanced recycling technologies can drive sustainability and resilience in energy-intensive industries.
