Driving Low-Carbon Steelmaking with Innovative Tundish Wear Lining Trials

Aligned with the global transition to low-carbon steelmaking, RHI Magnesita is advancing energysaving refractory products such as the FAST TO CAST tundish wear lining gunning mixes and ANKERTUN SH cold-setting mixes, which reduce natural-gas consumption and lower CO₂ emissions during tundish preheating. Recent trials of the FAST TO CAST slurry gunning mix at a leading steel producer in Japan delivered positive results—shorter preheating times, no cracking or peeling, and excellent residual-lining performance— leading to customer approval for further trials.

Across the Asia-Pacific region, 12 similar trials are currently underway in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Southeast Asia, representing significant business potential. Ongoing formulation optimisation will further strengthen RHI Magnesita’s competitiveness and reinforce its sustainability leadership in the region’s evolving steel industry.
